I can't believe that I am writing my first BLOG! Well, really it is all about class communication and homework. I am hoping to have some students help to write this. Standing homework is 30 to 45 minutes of reading every night and then fill out the reading response form. Parents are to sign this form before it is turned in on Monday.
- Essay of Concern first draft is due on Thursday Sept. 17th (see assignment below)Service Learning: Essay of Concern
Open Your Eyes
ESSAY:
After watching “If the World Were a Village of 100 People”, write your own essay that addresses an issue or issues important to your generation and identify the potential solutions. Include some specific steps of your solution or solutions. Your essay should include the following:
• 5-paragraphs (refer to graphic organizer handed out in class)
• A strong voice (think presidential delivery).
• Personal story or a quote from a current political leader who shares your concern about an issue and offers a solution you agree with.
ART:
After looking at examples (images by Nikki McClure, mathematical representations, etc), create your own poster on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. This art will be the cover of your service learning binder. (Example: “a place at the table” phrase, with an image of a table with place setting, including the % relevant to number of people who are hungry) Think about:
• Color scheme
• Phrase/slogan
• % relevant to issue
• Visual nontext representation such as a symbol, a chart, table, or other.
